Campus Safety Month

September is National Campus Safety Awareness Month: A month devoted to providing education to students, faculty, staff and visitors about daily, extensive safety efforts across Colorado State University. Human Resources is pleased to provide information about the safety resources available to CSU employees.
Suicide Prevention
Recent data have shown that the stress and isolation resulting from the pandemic have worsened the suicide crisis. Everyone can help prevent suicide by learning the warning signs, promoting prevention and resilience, and a committing to social change.
Employee Assistance Program: CSU employees and their family members are given six free counseling sessions per year through the Employee Assistance Program. They can also help get you in contact with local crisis services and support. To access these services, you may call 800-497-9133, 24/7.
Notice and Respond: Assisting Persons in Distress

This interactive workshop uses a combination of learning modalities to learn how to recognize and respond to a range of mental health issues including suicide. Participants can expect to observe a realistic filmed scenario of a conversation with a distressed individual and engage in self-reflection and dialog to overcome fears, judgments, and hesitations to improve competence and confidence in helping situations. The session will also help participants explore how a mental health challenge can impact team dynamics, learn about response options they can use in their settings, including the supervisory role, and become familiar with campus resources available for all CSU community members.
If you or someone you know is in an emergency, call The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800.273.TALK (8255) or call 911 immediately.
