Financial wellness is an important part of overall well-being and student loan debt can have a profound impact on borrower’s lives and quality of life.

Since Colorado State University is a public service employer, employees may be eligible to apply for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF). This program forgives student loan debt for individuals working full-time in the public service sector.

To qualify for PSLF, you must:
  • be employed by a U.S. federal, state, local, or tribal government or not-for-profit organization (federal service includes U.S. military service);
  • work full-time for that agency or organization;
  • have Direct Loans (or consolidate other federal student loans into a Direct Loan);
  • repay your loans under an income-driven repayment plan*; and
  • make 120 qualifying payments.
Annually Certify Your Employment

To help you track your progress toward qualifying for PSLF, it is recommended that you submit the PSLF form annually or when you change employers. It will make applying for forgiveness after 10 years of employment in public service much easier.

This form must be certified by a designated official who has access to your full employment records. Human Resources is the signer for CSU and you can submit your form through the secure OneDrive for certification. Because this form contains sensitive demographic information, we ask that you do not send it via email.

Please note that HR receives a high volume of these requests and returns forms in the order they were received. To help expedite the process be sure to complete sections 1 and 2 in their entirety and include your email address. Once the form is certified, we will return it to you via secure email. We aim to return forms in less than 5 days, if you have not received your form after 1 business week from submission, you may follow up via email at that time.

Resources for PSLF

Fidelity, TIAA, and Corebridge (formerly AIG) all have online resources to help you calculate student loan repayment options. If you have a retirement account with one of these vendors, you can access these tools by logging in to their online portal.

The website for Federal Student Aid has information on the PSLF program, calculators, and other resources to help manage student loan debt.
