Before launching a new Talent Acquisition search to fill a vacancy, an HR Professional needs to follow a series of crucial steps. The initial phase begins with an in-depth intake meeting with the Hiring Authority aimed at setting the groundwork for the recruitment process.

During this meeting, the HR Professional will:

  1. Thoroughly explain the entire search process with the Hiring Authority, ensuring a clear understanding of each step.
  2. Go over compliance requirements, implicit bias considerations, and the best practices for conducting interviews.
  3. You will meticulously examine the position description for the vacant role, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the responsibilities and qualifications required.
  4. Develop a recruitment and interview plan with the Hiring Authority, outlining the entire process from attracting potential candidates to final selection. Part of this planning includes working with the Hiring Authority to identify the specific applicant documents that will be required during the application process.
  5. To ensure a well-rounded assessment, the HR Professional and Hiring Authority will also determine the panel of interviewers who will participate in the final interviews with candidates. It is essential that, apart from the Hiring Authority, at least one other interviewer, possibly even the HR professional themselves, participates in the finalist interviews. This step guarantees a balanced evaluation of candidates and minimizes biases, leading to a more objective and effective hiring decision.
