How are core summer business hours of 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. applied?

Individual units and offices may have summer operating hours that fit their business needs. Employee schedules can be adjusted for flexibility. Employees are still entitled to their full, normal work week schedule.

As a supervisor, what flexibility can I offer to my employees during the summer?

Flexible work arrangements can be offered within a unit.

The university supports creative and flexible employee schedules that facilitate employees completing their duties as well as temporary adjustments to schedules that support work/life balance.

Examples include four ten-hour days, alternating days in the office with remote presence, etc.

State classified employees should refer to article 14 of the COWINS partnership agreement for permanent schedule change requirements.

State classified, administrative professional, research, post-doctoral fellows, graduate assistants and faculty who are 12-month employees are eligible and encouraged to participate.

I am an essential or critical employee and may have difficulty scheduling time for professional development days. What are my options?

All employees and supervisors are strongly encouraged to schedule professional development days during the summer of 2022.

In the rare cases that an employee cannot take professional development days during this period, supervisors are asked to work with the employee to schedule the same number of professional development days before June 30, 2023. These days need not be taken consecutively. These days are not eligible for payout or rollover at the end of the fiscal year.

I work on a sponsored research project; can I participate in the professional development days?

Yes, all employees listed under “eligible to participate” except those units that use the fringe 2 rate, are eligible for administrative leave for professional development days.

What is the deadline to edit professional development administrative leave to ensure it is recorded accurately for payroll purposes?

The deadline for entering leave follows normal payroll data entry and approval deadlines.

How will time for professional development be reflected in the TimeClock Plus system?

In July, a new leave bank, professional development administrative leave, will be added to eligible employees in TimeClock Plus.

Twenty-four hours of this new leave type will be added to each eligible employee’s accruals (prorated for part-time employees).

This can be requested like annual and sick leave in the Requests section. For more details, see the full TimeClock Plus Guide.
